moodboards & relation to reality

Dupe culture is everywhere; it is inevitable, especially with the age of social media. Everything is a copy of something else.
Authentic inspiration for personal creative projects should not just come from a collection of the finished product of other looks/brands/aesthetics.
But from things that aren’t directly connected to what we want the finished product to be.
Look for innovation from areas disconnected from your practice!
(for me this looks like researching photography, art history, runways, graphic design etc.)
Otherwise, everything we think we like or we think we are creating/innovating came to us not because it is natural to us. But because it has been fed to us in the zeitgeist over and over again.

For example, if the aesthetic is “old money” - this would usually mean this person lives the lifestyle, comes from a lineage of wealth and dresses from high-end brands with a minimalist style.
Now, anyone can dress “old money” if they fit the aesthetic and they have the items that the moodboards on Pinterest are promoting.
This means the aesthetic lost its relation to reality. The aesthetic is no longer real, just an idea.
moral of the story: in order to be original and innovate with your art, consume less. CREATE MORE.
